Seen on almost every street style blog, the kimono is one that seems to stand the test of time and for good reason - it has become the ultimate transitional wardrobe item from day to night.

Due to it’s versatility and often dynamic colours, an elegant kimono can lift the simplest of ensembles into an eye-catching creation for day or night.

Velvet, silk, embroidered or printed - the choices are limitless. Here's how to style this heavenly-inspired floating overcoat.

Jean Genie

There’s no denying that the easiest look with your Kimono is the trusty jeans and tee or tank combo. Choose a Kimono that falls to where you feel comfortable.  Opt for knee-length for a more structured day look. Or, if tall, a full length kimono combines both dramatic impact and easy elegance.

Simplify

The Kimono is often considered a casual layer. Don’t be afraid to pull it out for dressy events, weddings or black tie. Wear layered over a simplistic dress in a monotone colour, paired with a statement necklace, bracelets and heels to elevate the style to an elegant look worthy of any red carpet.

Trans-seasonal style

Often viewed as a Spring/summer staple due to its fabric lightness, the Kimono also works well in cooler months over heavy-duty knitwear. The Kimono style adds an air of floaty romance against the dreariness of winter and can be effectively juxtaposed with wool, full length pants and even boots.

The multi-tasker

Synonymous with boho style, the Kimono can also be worn layered over so many different pieces. Style over a floaty skirt, cami and plenty of jewellery for that quintessential bohemian look. A structured pair of wide-leg pants, a simple top and plain heels will work for a modern street look. The outfit ideas are endless with a Kimono in the wardrobe waiting in the wings.
